Everything you need to know about Binero

Learn the rules and try a practical solving tip.

What is Binero?

Binero is a logic puzzle in which you fill a grid with zeros and ones. Balance each row and column while avoiding three identical values in a row. Some puzzles also have relation clues.

Rules

  • Each cell must contain 0 or 1.
  • Each row and column must contain equal numbers of zeros and ones.
  • Three or more identical values may not appear consecutively, horizontally or vertically.
  • No two rows may be identical, and no two columns may be identical.
  • Where relation symbols appear, = means equal values and ≠ means different values.

Tips

Tip: If a six-cell row already has three zeros, the rest must be ones. In the pattern 1, empty cell, 1, the empty cell must be 0.

How to solve Binero: two simple examples

Prevent three in a row: In the pattern 1 · 1, the empty cell must be 0. Placing a 1 there would create three consecutive ones. The result is 1 0 1. Likewise, 0 0 · must end with 1. This rule also works vertically.

Count to half: A six-cell row needs three zeros and three ones. The row 0 1 0 · · 0 already has three zeros, so both empty cells must be ones: 0 1 0 1 1 0.

These examples show a row or part of a row, not a complete puzzle. Always check the crossing columns and make sure no completed rows or columns are identical.

Common Binero mistakes

  • Only counting zeros and ones. Balance matters, but so do the no-three rule and unique rows and columns.
  • Applying the no-three rule diagonally. It only applies horizontally and vertically.
  • Solving a row without checking its columns. Each placement affects both directions.
  • Overlooking = or ≠ between cells when the puzzle includes these clues.

Frequently asked questions about Binero

Can I play Binero for free without an account?

Yes, you can play directly in your browser without an account. An account is needed to save personal progress and collect puzzle points from completed daily puzzles.

Is there a daily Binero?

Yes. Choose the daily challenge on this page. For more practice, select free play and a difficulty level.

What do = and ≠ mean?

The = symbol means the two cells must contain the same value. The ≠ symbol means they must contain different values. These are extra clues; the usual Binero rules still apply.

Do I have to guess?

Start with certain deductions: two identical values next to each other, two identical values with a gap between them, and rows or columns that already have their full quota of one value. If you get stuck, move to another area and check what your latest placements rule out.
